Martin Van Buren (December 5, 1782-July 24, 1862), the 8th Vice President of the United States (1833-1837) and the 8th President (1837-1841), he It was the first president born after the "American Declaration of Independence" was formally signed.
Born in the Netherlands, he was the first Dutch-American president. In 1821, Van Buren was elected to the US Senate and later served as the eleventh governor of New York. In the first term of President Andrew Jackson, Van Buren entered the Cabinet as Secretary of State. In 1832, Van Buren was nominated as Vice President of Jackson (the eighth Vice President of the United States), and in 1835 was nominated as presidential candidate. In 1836, Van Buren defeated four opponents of the Whig Party (now the predecessor of the Republican Party) and was elected president. Four years later, the re-election failed. Later, he participated in the election twice, but was defeated, and then he withdrew from politics and took a break from his hometown. On July 24, 1862, he died in his own estate near Kendhoek.
